More About Podiatry
A Podiatrist, also called a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM), is a specialist who provides medical diagnosis and treatment of the foot and ankle. Including but not limited to, sprains and fractures, bunions, heel pain/spurs, hammertoes, nueromas, ingrown toenails, warts, corns and calluses, diabetic foot care, wound care and infections of the feet. The education consists of four years of undergraduate medical training and four years of podiatric medical school to obtain their podiatric medical degree. Typically, they complete a post graduate residency in podiatric primary care, orthopedics and/or surgery. Podiatrists are required to take a state and national exam, as well as be licensed by the state in which they practice.
Medical Education and Background
Dr. Berg received her bachelor’s degree in 1991 in Biology from the University of California San Diego and received her Master Degree in Biomedical Sciences from Barry University in Miami Shores, Florida. She went on to earn her Doctorate in Podiatric Medicine From Barry University in 1996. Dr. Berg completed her residency in podiatric medicine and surgery at the Miami Heart Institute and completed her surgical training at the Baptist Rehabilitation Hospital in Germantown, Tennessee.
Dr. Berg is board-certified in foot surgery by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery (ABPS). She has also obtained a certification in wound care by the American Academy of Wound Management (AAWM) and finds she enjoys this most. She is an active staff member of Penrose-St. Francis and Memorial Health System and has privileges to perform surgery at all local Hospitals and affiliated surgery centers.
When Doctor Berg is not in the clinic, she is very active in her community. She is on the Board of Directors for Colorado Podiatric Medical Association. She enjoys Skiing with her daughter and many other outdoor Colorado activities.
